Ga Milestones Update

September 12, 2014

Dear Parents and Students:

The purpose of this correspondence is to inform you that the State Board of Education (SBOE) approved the Georgia Department of Education’s request to waive components of the SBOE Rule Statewide Passing Score. In summary, the SBOE waived the requirement that the End of Course test score contributes 20% to a student’s final course grade for the 2014-2015 school year.

This waiver was sought and granted due to the implementation of Georgia’s new assessment program– the Georgia Milestones Assessment System. The Georgia Department of Education has indicated that there will be a delay in receiving the scores the first year and that we will likely receive the scores in fall 2015.

Oconee County Schools will not include these scores in the calculation of the final grade and a revised syllabus will be issued with this information. Please note that the scores will be reported on student transcripts once the State Department of Education releases the results. It is important to keep in mind that Georgia has not implemented a new assessment system since 2000 (CRCT) and 2003 (EOCT) and in both instances scores were delayed.

The results will be delayed to provide sufficient time for the Georgia Department of Education to ensure that the assessment results are analyzed to determine validity and reliability.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Ben Wiggins
Principal

Water Bottles
Oconee County Cross County Team is selling water bottles. These great bottles come in Blue and Pink, two different designs and the best part is they are only $5.00!!! Each bottle is imprinted with only the Warrior Logo and Oconee County High School. These bottles are great for every student, durable enough to last and inexpensive enough to lose. No more expensive water bottles left in the stands, dropped under the bleachers or simply left behind at whatever event the student attended. So many ways to use these bottles, fill them with treats and send off to your college student, birthday and holiday gifts for the family, and also ideal for school functions or centerpieces for tables. Think of the ways, and we have the bottles. These great water bottles will be sold before each home football game, and other school events.
