CFES is so proud to announce our Science Olympiad team received 2nd place at Regions and 15th place in the State of Georgia! WAY TO GO!
Camp Invention is coming to Colham Ferry Elementary School July 20 - 24, 2015 from 8:30AM to 3:00PM.
We are very excited to begin our STEAM initiative at CFES with this awesome program. Students will have a fun and educational experience with problem solving using science, technology, engineering, art, and math. There are limited spaces available for this event so sign up today! I have attached specific information related to Camp Invention www.campinvention.org. GO MUSTANGS!!!
Local educators lead the week of hands-on activities created especially for elementary school children. Boys and girls spend time “greening up” a polluted city’s infrastructure, discovering how to survive living on an alien planet and taking apart electronics to assemble something one-of-a-kind. Lessons explore connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation. Don’t miss out on brand new challenges. Discounts are available and spaces are limited, so secure your spot soon.
As 21st century learners, it is critical for our students to be proficient in using technology to research, organize and communicate information. For our third, fourth and fifth graders keyboarding skills are increasingly important, as the new Georgia Milestones Test will require them to complete extended written responses in addition to the traditional multiple choice items.
In addition to opportunities to use keyboarding for constructed responses, projects, and writing tasks during the school day, we are asking for your help with keyboarding practice at home.

Motivated students enjoy learning and are successful students!!!
Because we believe that student motivation is so important for school success, this year we have initiated a school-wide Motivated Mustang program. Our goal is to provide instruction, activities and experiences which help students grow in the areas of academics, citizenship and problem solving. The Motivated Mustang program is designed to encourage growth in intrinsic motivation, responsibility and student initiative for students at all grade levels.
During pre-planning, CFES teachers developed a list of attributes which they believe are essential for success in school and in life. The Motivated Mustang program will focus on those attributes through instruction, procedures, and peer collaboration. Lessons will target activities designed to encourage individual responsibility, academic growth, critical thinking, and integration of technology. Students will participate in learning projects, classroom meetings, and individual goal setting activities during the school year to strengthen student motivation.
As teachers developed the list of essential attributes, they also designed a Motivated Mustang visual model. We are sharing this graphic model with students, parents, and the community to help communicate an awareness of our key goals. The model addresses all areas of development and reflects our concern for the whole child.
During the year, we will recognize individual students who exemplify Motivated Mustang characteristics. We encourage you to send ideas and activities which motivate your child.
Motivated Mustang Charteristics Include:
Focused Learner, Critical Thinking, Good listener, Strong Communication Skills, Confident, Technologically Savvy, Write Convincingly, Respectful, Healthy Active Lifestyle, Persistence, Applies Mathematical Fundamentals, Global Perspective, Problem Solver

Oconee County Schools and The United Way of Northeast Georgia would like your help in supporting the Wee Read program.
The Wee Read program was started to encourage the practice of reading to young children. Partnered with the Dolly Part Imagination Library, every registered child from birth to age 5 in Oconee County will receive one free, age-appropriate hardback book in the U.S. mail each month. This highly effective program takes advantage of the natural excitement connected with receiving a package in the mail—children are eager to open the brand new book that comes addressed specifically to them. Parents are reminded and motivated to read to their young children when they receive their new book each month. Included in the back flay of each Wee Read book are reading activities endorsed by the United Way for parents to use.
The cost of this program is $25.00. Flyers will be going home in Friday Folders soon. We would love your support of this program and have set a goal for Oconee County to have 2000 participants for this program. Click here for more information!
